Wyoming Property Tax Refund, Veteran Exemption, and Deferral Relief¶
Wyoming tax relief relevant to caregiver households, including the statewide Property Tax Refund Program for eligible residential taxpayers, the Veteran's Property Tax Exemption Program for qualifying veterans and surviving spouses, and county-option property tax deferral for older or disabled homeowners.
Wyoming Department of Revenue identifies three property tax relief, credit, or deferral programs. The statewide Property Tax Refund Program is administered by the Department of Revenue for eligible residential taxpayers who paid property tax timely, have been Wyoming residents for the past five years, meet household income limits based on the greater of 145% of county or state median household income, and meet asset limits. The refund is up to one-half of the median residential property tax amount or 75% of the property tax bill, whichever is less, with annual application required by the first Monday in June. The Veteran's Property Tax Exemption Program is administered locally and may provide a $6,000 assessed-value exemption against real or personal property for qualifying honorably discharged veterans, surviving spouses, and certain disabled veterans; it may be applied to primary-residence property tax or motor vehicle registration. Wyoming also authorizes a county-option Property Tax Deferral Program for qualifying homeowners with limited income who are over age 62 or handicapped, but DOR currently notes that only Teton County authorizes the program.
