Virginia Family Caregiver Support and Lifespan Respite Voucher

Virginia supports family caregivers through Area Agency on Aging caregiver support programs, the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services Lifespan Respite Voucher Program, Virginia Easy Access, and the Virginia Caregiver Coalition. Services include caregiver support groups, individual counseling, respite, local AAA referrals, caregiver resources, and limited annual respite reimbursement.

Virginia caregiver supports are delivered through Area Agencies on Aging and DARS. AAA-administered programs help caregivers access formal or informal supports such as respite, caregiver support groups, and individual counseling. Virginia Easy Access says 25 AAAs serve every county and city in Virginia and can help older Virginians, caregivers, and families find caregiver respite grants and other aging services. The DARS Lifespan Respite Voucher Program can reimburse eligible Virginia caregivers up to $595 per household per year through June 30, 2026, or until funds run out, for temporary short-term respite; caregivers select, hire, train, and pay the respite provider.
