Family Paid Caregiver Pilot Program¶
The Family Paid Caregiver Pilot Program allows North Dakota spouses, parents, and guardians of Medicaid waiver beneficiaries to be paid as in-home caregivers at $162.73 per day, maximum 5 days per week.
Eligibility¶
- Care recipient must have a qualifying disability
- Must live with care recipient
- Relationship: spouse, parent

- Does the person receiving care live in North Dakota? — Residency is usually the first thing a program checks.
- Does your relationship to the person — spouse or parent — count for this program?
- What counts as a qualifying disability or level of care need, and what documentation shows it?
- Do you need to live with the person receiving care, and how is that verified?
- Is there a caregiver-specific department, coordinator, or support line? Ask for it by name. — Many agencies have one that isn’t advertised on the website.
- What documents do you need from us to start an application?
- Is there a waitlist right now, and how long is it?
How to apply¶
- Apply and submit the application through the Family Paid Caregiver Portal (familycaregiver.hhs.nd.gov); sign in with a North Dakota Login account, add the individual receiving care, then add and submit the application; after review, the applicant completes a self-assessment to identify extraordinary needs.
