Mississippi Child Care Credit and Homestead Exemption

Mississippi tax relief relevant to caregiver households, including the individual child care tax credit for taxpayers who claimed the federal dependent care credit and the homestead exemption for eligible homeowners, with enhanced property tax relief for older adults and people who are totally disabled.

Mississippi provides an individual child care tax credit for taxpayers who claimed the federal dependent care credit and have federal adjusted gross income of $50,000 or less. The state credit equals 25% of the federal dependent care credit and is limited to total Mississippi income tax liability. Mississippi also offers a homestead exemption for eligible homeowners. Regular homestead applicants may receive a property-tax credit of up to $300. Applicants who are at least 65 years old or totally disabled by January 1 can qualify for an age/disability homestead exemption on the first $7,500 of assessed value, with proof of age or total disability required.
