  • Does the person receiving care live in Minnesota? — Residency is usually the first thing a program checks.
  • Does your relationship to the person — spouse, parent, or child — count for this program?
  • Is there a caregiver-specific department, coordinator, or support line? Ask for it by name. — Many agencies have one that isn’t advertised on the website.

How to apply

  • Work with your PCA provider agency to ensure your spouse or the parent of a minor meets PCA enrollment requirements and follows all applicable PCA worker policies; the provider agency then bills DHS or the person's managed care organization for services delivered on or after Oct. 1, 2024. To be eligible for PCA generally, a person must have an assessment that determines eligibility, conducted by the person's county, tribal nation, or managed care organization.
