Michigan Home Help Program

The Michigan Home Help Program is a Medicaid State Plan personal care program that provides in-home assistance to eligible individuals who need help with activities of daily living. The program allows participants to hire their own caregivers, including family members (except spouses), who are paid through the state. It is an entitlement program — all who meet eligibility criteria must be served.

Provides Medicaid-funded personal care services in the home. Participants can hire their own caregivers, including sons, daughters, adult grandchildren, nieces, and nephews (spouses cannot be hired). Effective January 1, 2026, individual caregivers are paid $17.13/hour ($13.73 state minimum wage + $3.40 direct care worker wage increase). Payments processed biweekly through direct deposit or mailed check. Hours authorized based on individual assessment of care needs. As an entitlement program, there is no waitlist -- all who qualify must be served. Provider Support: 1-800-979-4662 or providersupport@michigan.gov.
