Family as Paid Caregiver¶
Family as Paid Caregiver is a self-direction service delivery option for Medicaid HCBS Waiver participants, allowing family members aged 21 and older to be paid for caregiving.
Eligibility¶
- Care recipient must have a qualifying disability
- Applicant age: at least 21
- Relationship: spouse, parent, child, other relative
Questions to ask the program¶

- Does the person receiving care live in Louisiana? — Residency is usually the first thing a program checks.
- Does your relationship to the person — spouse, parent, child, or other relative — count for this program?

- Is there a caregiver-specific department, coordinator, or support line? Ask for it by name. — Many agencies have one that isn’t advertised on the website.
