Kansas Self-Directed Attendant Care / KanCare HCBS¶
Kansas provides self-directed attendant care through KanCare, the state's Medicaid managed care system. HCBS waivers for Frail Elderly (FE), Physical Disability (PD), and other populations offer consumer-directed options allowing participants to hire and manage their own attendants. Kansas was among the early adopters of self-direction in home and community-based services.
Kansas KanCare HCBS waivers provide self-directed attendant care with pay rates of approximately $13-$16/hr. Waivers include Frail Elderly (FE), Physical Disability (PD), and others. Family members including spouses can serve as paid attendants. Waitlists are typical for waiver services.
