Idaho Family Care, Child, Food, and Dependent Care Tax Relief¶
Idaho income-tax credits and deductions relevant to caregiver households, including the food tax credit, Idaho child tax credit, child and dependent care deduction, and a credit for maintaining a home for an immediate family member age 65 or older or a family member with a developmental disability.
Idaho caregiver households may have several state tax-relief pathways. The food tax credit is generally $155 per person for Idaho residents and can include qualifying dependents; residents who are not otherwise required to file can still claim a food tax credit refund. Idaho also provides a child tax credit of $205 per qualifying child age 16 or under, limited to tax liability. Taxpayers who claim the federal Credit for Child and Dependent Care Expenses may take an Idaho deduction for child care expenses paid for dependents, with a worksheet limit of $12,000 for one or more children or dependents cared for during the year. Idaho also allows a $100 per-person credit, up to $300, for maintaining a household for an immediate family member age 65 or older or a family member with a developmental disability.
