Kinship Navigator Services provides information and support to non-relative caregivers caring for children placed in their care by the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services.

- Does the person receiving care live in Iowa? — Residency is usually the first thing a program checks.
- Does your relationship to the person — other relative or non relative — count for this program?
- Is there a caregiver-specific department, coordinator, or support line? Ask for it by name. — Many agencies have one that isn’t advertised on the website.

- HHS makes the referral to Kinship Navigator Services within three days of the child's placement with the kinship caregiver; caregivers may also talk to their HHS worker or kinship navigator to get started
