Colorado Family, Care, Disability, and Property Tax Relief

Colorado state tax relief pathways that may apply to caregiver households, including the Colorado earned income tax credit, child tax credit, family affordability tax credit, child and dependent care expenses credit, low-income child care expenses credit, disability assistance credit, and property tax/rent/heat credit rebate for eligible older adults, surviving spouses, and people with disabilities.

Colorado offers several tax relief paths relevant to caregiver households. The Colorado EITC is based on the federal earned income tax credit. The child tax credit and family affordability tax credit provide income-limited child-related relief. Colorado has both a child and dependent care expenses credit tied to the federal credit and a low-income child care expenses credit for certain taxpayers who cannot claim the federal credit. The disability assistance credit can help with qualifying home modifications, durable medical equipment, or vehicle adaptations for a qualified individual with a disability. Colorado also offers the PTC rebate for eligible residents who are age 65 or older, an eligible surviving spouse, or a person with a disability, subject to income and residency rules.
