CHAMPVA (Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs)

A comprehensive health care program in which the VA shares the cost of covered health care services and supplies with eligible beneficiaries. As a cost-sharing program, CHAMPVA pays for part of the cost of medically necessary procedures and services.

CHAMPVA generally pays 75% of the allowable amount for covered services, with the beneficiary responsible for a 25% cost-share. The annual outpatient deductible is $50 per individual and $100 per family. There is a $3,000 annual catastrophic cap per calendar year on out-of-pocket costs for beneficiaries/families. Cost-sharing is waived for certain services, including preventive services, hospice care, and the Meds-by-Mail pharmacy program.
